Msheireb was one of Doha’s oldest commercial districts which has now transformed into a sustainable downtown regeneration project.
It is an interesting example of future-orientated urban landscapes within GCC cities that include communities, services, utilities, commercial and residential elements to thrive within a spacious self-sustainable bubble; not compromising on the luxury and eco-friendly in value. It’s good to see Qatar partake in urban projects that will allow for organized development and maintenance of districts within the capital.
As a young millennial, I think the concept is refreshing as it provides a sense of community without the over-stimulation of downtown areas.
How to get there: The Metro station is at a walkable distance from the district. If you are arriving by private transport- private basement parking is available around the whole district.
How to get around : By feet is advisable if you want to take in and appreciate the architectural features of this mini district and pause for photo ops. However, there is also a functioning tram service that will take you around if you are not much of a walker.
What to see : Within this mini sustainable, luxurious, re-developed district resides the stunning 7-star Mandarin Oriental hotel that upholds an excellent valet service. Walk a bit further and you can take respite from the heat inside the Galleria that houses rare luxury brands, conceptual cafes like the Instagram-able EL & N London Café and a huge Monoprix that is a purchasing paradise for those on the grocery run. The Doha Design district is based here and comes alive with pop-up shows and fashion bazaars held from time to time. Many restaurants and shops are yet to open in this district.
A quick walk around the neighborhood on an evening out will showcase the architectural décor and designs in its glorious and colorful symmetry.
Take a look at the visuals captured below to get an idea of what to expect.
